I finally gave up on my old way of making frozen fries

For months, I was stuck between just dumping the bag straight into the basket or doing a whole pre-soak and pat dry thing I saw online. I always picked the dump method because it was fast, but my fries kept coming out kinda soggy and pale. Last week, I got fed up and tried the soak for 30 minutes in cold water, dried them with paper towels, then tossed them with just a teaspoon of oil. The difference was crazy. They got super crispy on the outside and stayed fluffy inside, like proper diner fries. I mean, it adds maybe 10 extra minutes, but it's worth it. Idk, maybe it's just me but I feel like I was wasting good potatoes before. Has anyone else tried this method with other frozen veggies, like maybe cauliflower?

Why waste ten minutes when the dump method is fine?

Honestly though... is it that big of a deal? People act like a messy dump is a crime. My old coffee maker had grounds everywhere and it still worked for years. Sometimes the "right" way just adds stress over nothing.

I read somewhere that the soak helps remove surface starch, which is what makes the dump method turn out soggy. I mean, I get what @karenm49 is saying about not stressing, but the extra step really does work better for me. Maybe it just depends on how much you care about the texture.
