Applied for SDI with a bad back and got denied twice

Filed my first claim in February for a herniated disc. They said I didn't have enough medical proof. Second time I sent MRI results and still got rejected. Anyone else fighting the appeals process right now?

Unpopular opinion: paint sprayers are overrated for small rooms

Spent last Saturday cleaning a Graco sprayer for 2 hours after painting my 10x12 spare bedroom in Phoenix. A roller would've taken the same time and saved me the headache of masking everything. Anyone else find sprayers more trouble than they're worth for tiny spaces?

Learned the hard way about wet curing polyurethane sealer

Poured a garage floor last Thursday and used a polyurethane sealer but forgot to check the humidity. It blushed bad in a 20x30 section and now I gotta grind it off and redo it this weekend. Anybody here use a wet cure method on polyurethane or just me?

My Nakamichi deck ate my best 90s grunge mix tape last night

I was just sitting there listening to my carefully curated Nirvana and Soundgarden mix from 1993, and about halfway through the tape just CRUNCHED and stopped. I popped the door open and the tape was all bunched up inside, like the take-up reel just gave up. I spent a good 20 minutes with a tiny screwdriver and some tweezers trying to get the slack back on the reels. Managed to save about 75 percent of it but the middle got wrinkled pretty bad. Anyone know a good way to fix creased tape without making it worse?

Saw a street photographer duck into a doorway in Portland yesterday and it clicked for me

I was walking through the Pearl District trying to get candid shots but everyone kept noticing me and posing stiff... this guy just melted into a shadow and caught this perfect moment of a kid splashing in a puddle. How do you get close enough without people freezing up on you?

Switched from ceramic to carbon steel knives three months ago. Huge difference.

I got tired of sharpening my ceramic blades every two weeks at 25 bucks a pop from the shop downtown. Picked up a set of carbon steel knives from a supplier at a restaurant show in Atlanta. After 90 days of daily prep work, they hold an edge way longer and I can hone them myself in seconds. The only catch is you have to dry them immediately or they discolor. Anyone else made the switch and dealt with the rust issue?

I was skeptical of automatic chicken coop doors until I forgot to close mine one night

Last Tuesday I came home late from work and realized I'd left the coop door open all night. Woke up at 5am to check and found all four hens safe, but a raccoon had been sniffing around the run. That was enough for me. I ordered an Omlet auto door with a light sensor for $129 and now I sleep better knowing the girls are locked up tight. Has anyone else had a close call like that?

PSA: Found out the hard way that certs expire faster than I thought

I was looking into getting a CompTIA A+ certification since I've been messing with computers on the side for a while and wanted something official for a career switch. Then I read on their website that the cert only lasts three years before you have to renew it. That kinda threw me off because I assumed once you passed the test you were good forever. My buddy who works in IT told me he had to re-up his Network+ last year and it cost him like $150 and a few hours of studying. I mean I get that tech changes but paying to recertify every few years feels like a money grab. Has anyone else dealt with this and decided it was still worth it or did you just skip certs altogether?

That moment you realize band saw blades have tripled in price since 2015

Was cleaning out my old ledger book from the shop in St. Louis and saw I paid $18 for a 1/2 inch blade back then. Now the same blade runs me $54. Any of you guys switching to hand saws for small batches to save money?
