Hot take: My tofu scramble came out perfect without black salt

All the recipes swear by it for eggy flavor, but mine tasted great with just turmeric and pepper. It's a win for keeping things simple in the kitchen.

In my kitchen, black salt is a must for tofu scramble. It adds that eggy smell and taste you get from real eggs. Without it, the tofu just tastes like turmeric and pepper. I tried skipping it once, and the scramble was bland in a weird way. Putting black salt in makes it taste like the eggs I remember. If you want that true egg flavor, don't leave it out.

But like, is it that deep? I get what @nancy_owens is saying about the flavor, but it's just tofu in the end, right? Tastes fine to me without hunting for special salt.

Honestly, a cookbook I was flipping through called black salt the secret for realistic tofu eggs. Tbh, once you try it, regular tofu scramble tastes kinda flat.
