My balcony garden thrived after I set up a simple rain barrel system
I just found out that catching rainwater can really help city gardens. I attached a small barrel to my balcony drain to collect water when it rains. My plants seem much happier now, like the lettuce and peppers are growing better. For instance, the peppers used to get dry spots, but now they're shiny and full. This method saves tap water and helps the environment too. It was cheap and easy to do with stuff from the local garden store. Have you ever used rainwater for your plants?

Yeah that chemical thing is interesting, makes you wonder exactly what's in tap water that holds plants back. Is it chlorine or maybe fluoride? I've seen my herbs perk up with rain water too, like they're getting something they were missing before. It's wild how plants can show you what they need just by how they look. What other differences have you noticed since switching?

Heard somewhere that rainwater doesn't have the chemicals found in tap water. It makes sense that plants would grow better without that stuff. Your peppers looking better sure seems to prove it.

@val833, your rain water theory made me remember the time I left a bucket outside during a storm. It filled up, and I used it on my ferns. They turned a weird shade of green, almost glowing. My dad said it was because of bird poop in the water, but who knows. Plants are full of surprises. I tried it on some peppers too, but they didn't care either way.
