When did your mid size dog hit the 40 lb mark and suddenly feel like a different animal?
My lab mix crossed 45 lbs at his 9 month vet visit last Tuesday and it was like a switch flipped, he pulls harder on hikes but also guards the couch more, so do you treat a 40 lb dog like a big dog or a small one, and where do you draw that line for things like harnesses and dog park rules?

Did your vet laugh when you asked if he was done growing? Mine did, right before telling me my "medium" boy had another 20 lbs coming. I made the same mistake of buying a medium harness at 40 lbs and he walked out of it like a guy escaping a bad job (lesson learned, measure the chest not the weight). The line for me landed at 50, under that he got small dog park time, over it he went with the big guys because he was too rough for the little ones.
