I hit a wall with the 1918 flu pandemic timeline in my town. Local stories said outbreaks started in fall, but health board reports pointed to early winter. I dug into weekly papers from that year and matched them with mortality lists. The key was seeing how reporting delays skewed the first accounts, so now I always pair newspapers with government files.
