My grandma would've tsked at my rushed basting on that Edwardian blouse.
The seams puckered so bad I had to start over, lmao.

Those puckered seams sound familiar, lol. I once rushed the basting on a dress and the whole side seam twisted up. I had to redo it while imagining my own grandma's disappointed sigh.

Oh that "grandma's disappointed sigh" feeling is so real. I totally did the same thing with a skirt last month, I was so excited to finish it I just pinned and sewed the waistband without basting. The fabric bunched up so bad it looked like a crooked accordion. I had to sit there with my seam ripper for an hour, mad at myself for being impatient. You just can't skip the boring steps.

Ugh, the seam ripper of shame. It's like the sewing gods make you pay double the time for skipping one simple step. I've started treating basting like a required safety check, same as turning off the machine before you change the foot. That little bit of thread is the only thing standing between you and a huge, frustrating mess. The worst is when you know better but your brain just goes "it'll be fine this time." It is never fine.
