Waited out the spring mud on my local loop trail

The Pine Ridge circuit is usually a mess with deep puddles after the snow melts. I checked it every few days for a month until the ground firmed up. Last hike was perfect, with dry dirt and all the creek crossings easy. What trails near you have a long soggy season?

Ugh, I admire your patience. I check my usual path once after a rain, sink ankle-deep, and just give up for like six weeks... The Deer Creek path is basically a swamp until July.

Yeah I read this article about how some trails use different gravel mixes to drain faster. Makes me wish our local parks department would take notes (or just throw money at the problem, honestly).

And it's a wider issue for sure. You see it in road patches that wash away fast. Or park bathrooms always closed. The know how is there. The will is not. So we get half fixes that do not last. Trails are just the tip of it.
