Filter dreams vs. salon reality: a client's blurry photo request

Honestly, I had a woman come in with a selfie so filtered her hair looked like shiny plastic. Tbh, she pointed at the screen and said she wanted that 'exact cloud-like volume' from the app. Ngl, I had to gently explain that filters add digital hair where there isn't any. We spent ten minutes with her zooming in on pixels while I showed her real hair samples. In the end, I gave her a voluminous blowout and she said it was 'close enough'. But guys, have you ever had to talk someone down from a filter fantasy?

My cousin tried to show me a Pinterest hairstyle that used so much editing, the curls defied gravity. She was convinced her fine hair could achieve that bounce without a single mention of hairspray or staging. I had to pull up a behind-the-scenes video from a photoshoot to show all the clips and pins holding it together. We went with a nice curling wand and some mousse, which actually stayed up all night.

@schmidt.amy, pulling up that behind-the-scenes video was smart. So many of those Pinterest looks rely on editing and hidden clips. My friend with thin hair spent hours trying a style like that before realizing it needed way more hairspray than shown. Have you tried any other real-life fixes for volume?

Oh man, my roommate fell for one of those big braided updo tutorials last year. She followed every step but her hair just fell flat in minutes. The video never showed the stylist using what looked like a whole bag of those clear silicone hair bands inside the braid for structure. We found a blog post later where someone broke down all the hidden stuff. She uses a texturizing spray and those bendy wire hair pins now, total game changer.
