Question about the 'review the manual' advice for new gadgets

After my new smart thermostat kept disconnecting, I spent 45 minutes resetting it before I finally read the manual and found a single line about needing a specific 2.4GHz network band, which fixed it instantly.

My old Netgear router from 2018 let you split the bands right on the main setup page. Now on my new one, that option is buried three menus deep in an "advanced" tab. I mean it feels like everything is getting dumbed down and hidden, like car touchscreens burying the AC controls. They just assume we don't want to know how our own stuff works anymore.
