Vent: A client in Phoenix completely changed how I handle estimates
They brought in a massive oak dining table they'd bought at a yard sale for $50, wanting a full strip and a custom black milk paint finish. I gave them a quote for $800 based on the hours I thought it would take. They agreed, but then kept calling every other day asking for updates and if they could add little things like gold leaf on the legs. After the third call, I realized I hadn't factored in the time for all that back-and-forth. Now I always add a 15% 'client management' buffer to my quotes for custom jobs. Anyone else have to start doing this?

That "client management" buffer is smart and totally necessary. I build the time for emails and calls right into the project timeline now. It saves so much stress when they want to keep adding things.

People never plan for the talking part.
