My uncle told me to use a hair dryer to soften old varnish before scraping. It worked way better than I expected.

Oh man, that's such a good trick. It's wild how many old-school, simple fixes get forgotten. Like using a bar of soap on a sticky drawer or vinegar for hard water stains. We're so quick to buy some specialty product when the answer is already in the house. Your uncle knows what's up.

My grandma swore by those hacks but half the time the soap just made a mess. I've found some modern products work better for specific problems.
