Update: I quoted $800 for a simple website and the client said they found someone for $50

I just finished a call with a potential client who wanted a basic five page site for their small business. I gave them a fair quote of $800, which included two rounds of edits and a year of hosting support. They emailed back an hour later saying they found a guy on a freelance site who would do it for $50 flat. I'm not even mad, just baffled. How can anyone live on that? It took me three days just to write the proposal and do the discovery call. I guess my lesson is that some people just see price and nothing else, no matter how much you explain the value. It makes me wonder if I should even bother with those initial calls anymore. What's the lowest quote you've ever been undercut by, and how do you handle it?

Man, fifty bucks? That's wild. Honestly, you dodged a bullet. A client who sees that little value in your work is going to be a nightmare to deal with, constantly asking for free changes. I've been undercut by a few hundred before, but never that low. It just shows they were never your real customer.

Maybe it's not that deep though. Could just be someone on a super tight budget, not always a red flag.
