My foreman told me to skip the preheat on a big steel pour last winter
He said the furnace was hot enough from the last run and we were behind schedule. I went with it, and the whole thing froze in the runner before it hit the mold. Cost us half a day to chip it out and start over. Now I never cut that corner, no matter what. Anyone else have a boss push you to rush a step that blew up?

That's a classic lesson learned the hard way. Shortcuts on critical steps always cost more time than they save. The schedule never thanks you for a botched job.

Spot on, @the_julia. You see this everywhere, from people skipping the primer before painting to not reading the manual before building furniture. That rush to finish just guarantees you'll be doing it twice.
