I thought old rusty bolts were just trash until I glued a bunch to a piece of driftwood from Lake Michigan.

The way the light hit the rust next to the smooth, gray wood made this weird, cool texture I never expected, so has anyone else had a junk piece turn out better than the 'good' stuff they saved?

Oh man, that's awesome... my "good" craft drawer is full of stuff I'm too scared to ruin, so I just keep gluing bottle caps to old fence boards instead.

But what if you ruin them by not using them?

Oh totally, the "but what if you ruin them" thing is exactly why I think you SHOULD use them. I've ruined plenty of nice art supplies by just jumping in (like, I once wrecked a brand new $50 set of brush pens in a single afternoon), and honestly, that taught me way more than leaving them untouched in a drawer ever would. Saving stuff for "someday" just turns them into museum pieces instead of tools, and a ruined tool is still better than one that never got used.
