That weird choice in 'Galleon' on the original Xbox

I was playing 'Galleon' back in 2004, and there was this part where you had to choose to either save your first mate or chase after the main villain's ship immediately. I picked the ship, thinking it was the 'right' story move, but the game just got way harder without my crewmate's help in later fights. Anyone else remember a choice in an old game that totally backfired on you?

Yeah, that's rough lol. I always saved the first mate after my first playthrough, made the later fights way easier. @kim.emma that Fable key thing is a classic trap.

Man, that reminds me of the first Fable. I sold that stupid silver key to the trader in Oakvale for quick cash early on. Found out way later it was for a super important chest, and the guy had packed up and left town forever. Locked myself out of that gear for the whole playthrough.

Did your friend ever tell you about his disaster in that pirate game, Sea of Thieves? He spent ages getting a special chest, then set it on the deck to admire it. A rogue wave hit, the chest slid right off the ship, and sank in deep water before he could grab it. He said he just stared at the bubbles for a full minute, all that work gone in a second.
