Finally got the hang of conditioning my ranunculus after a rough start
For the first two weeks after opening my spot in Asheville, every ranunculus bunch I got would wilt within a day, no matter what I did. I started giving them a full hour in cool water with flower food right after unpacking, instead of just a quick dip. The batch I got Tuesday is still perky and open today, which is a huge relief. Has anyone else found a specific trick that made a big difference for a fussy flower?

Totally get the relief. Have you checked if your supplier stores them cold enough before you get them? Sometimes they're already stressed from the truck ride.

Oh man, that truck ride point is huge. I once got a batch of plants that were basically baked in a metal truck bed for six hours in July. They never really bounced back, even with perfect care after. It's a gamble sometimes.

My local garden center got a whole pallet of hydrangeas last spring that were basically cooked in a non-refrigerated warehouse for a week. It's like the whole supply chain forgets these are living things, not boxes of screws. You see it with grocery store produce too, stuff just sitting out getting wrecked before it even hits the shelf. Makes you wonder how much waste happens before a customer even sees the product.
