Hit 100 fixed gadgets in my garage workshop this year
I just counted them all up and it came to exactly 100 items saved from the trash. The one that got me there was a 2008 iPod Classic with a dead hard drive. I swapped in a cheap flash memory board I found online, and it worked on the first try. I used to think these old music players were too far gone to bother with. Has anyone else brought one of those back to life?

Totally get that feeling of bringing old tech back from the dead. I did the same flash mod on a 5th gen and it felt like magic. Honestly, the hardest part now is finding a decent battery that doesn't swell up in six months. Makes you wonder what other "obsolete" stuff is just one cheap part away from working again.

My buddy lewis.charlie tried to replace a battery in an old laptop and it puffed up like a marshmallow in a campfire. Makes you think half the stuff in a landfill just needs a five dollar capacitor. We're throwing away perfectly good things because some company won't make the one cheap piece anymore.
