Took me 3 weeks to figure out my krausen kept stalling because of tap water
I started brewing beer about 6 months ago and every batch would get stuck around day 4 or 5. The krausen would look decent for a day then just flatline. I went through three different yeast strains thinking that was the problem. Changed my temps twice and even bought a new fermenter bucket. Finally a guy at the local homebrew shop in Portland asked if I was using tap water. Yeah I was, straight from the sink. Turns out the chlorine in city water kills the yeast after a few days. Three weeks of frustration over something a $10 campden tablet could fix. Has anyone else wasted time on simple water chemistry issues like this?

Campden tablets fixed my stalling problem too.

Oh man I gotta disagree with you there @angela_dixon! Campden tablets helped me once but they weren't a real fix for my stalling issue. Mine kept coming back until I dug deeper into the problem. Turned out my fuel pressure regulator was going bad and the filter was clogged too. Campden just masks the symptom in my experience. You might want to check other parts of your system before calling it solved for good.
