My sauerkraut decided to stage a jailbreak across the kitchen floor

I was burping my big 2-gallon crock last Tuesday when the airlock seal gave way and a wave of brine and cabbage shot out like a geyser. It took me an hour to clean the sticky mess off the cabinets and my dog looked at me like I was crazy. Has anyone else had a ferment turn into a full-blown science project?

My cousin's kimchi exploded all over her new white cabinets last month.

Honestly thought that was just an old wives tale until my own jar went off like a science project. Pink stains everywhere, smelled like a locker room for a week. Now I burp those things religiously and keep them in a plastic bin, no exceptions lol.
