Winter fence post concrete failure has me debating methods

I poured standard mix for posts and a cold snap made it crack. One crew says to only use fast-setting concrete in winter. Another group claims proper scheduling avoids this issue entirely. Where do you fall on this?

My uncle's crew schedules pours around noon in winter and checks two different weather apps. They treat the forecast like concrete law, no exceptions.

Oh wow, scheduling is everything! Wendy's crew is totally right to treat the forecast like law. You have to watch for that temp drop after the sun goes down, not just the daytime high. I'd even add a third weather app and check the hourly view, because a surprise evening freeze is what gets you. That's exactly what happened to @jade_murphy, and then you're stuck with a crumbly mess. Fast-set concrete can help in a pinch, but if your timing is off, you're just wasting more expensive material.
