Unpopular opinion: I thought those detachable sleeve jackets were a dumb gimmick for a solid year.
Then my friend in Minneapolis wore one to a concert and just popped the sleeves off when we got inside, and I mean, it was kind of genius. Anyone have a pattern for something like that that doesn't look super cheap?

Okay, so I was the same way, totally wrote them off. The trick is the zipper. You need a really good, small plastic zipper at the shoulder seam, not those big clunky metal ones. I made one with a light denim and used a zipper from an old hoodie. It lays flat and you can't even tell it's there until you want the sleeves gone.

Actually that zipper trick @irisw73 mentioned is smart, but what about the weird bunching that happens after you take the sleeves off? I tried one and the arm holes were all loose and baggy, looked like I had wings. Maybe you need to add a little snap or a button inside the seam to keep the extra fabric tucked? Otherwise you're just walking around with these flappy openings.
