The great sleeve debate: form versus function in winter coats

I spent 3 months trying to design a coat sleeve that was both fitted for style and roomy enough for thick sweaters. The final pattern took 12 drafts to get right. Has anyone else found a good middle ground for this?

Seems like some brands nail the balance pretty well actually.

Honestly, the sleeve struggle is so real. My last winter coat had sleeves so tight I could barely drive. I ended up taking it to a tailor to let out the seams, which worked okay but cost more than I wanted to spend. It's crazy how many brands just assume you won't wear layers. I've started looking for coats with a bit of stretch fabric in the shoulders now, which helps a little. It feels like such a basic thing to get wrong.

Ever notice how a lot of stuff is designed for looks over actual use? It's like they forget people have to move their arms or carry things. What's the most annoying example you've seen?
