PSA: The cargo pocket comeback is real and it's different this time
I was looking at street style photos from 2018 versus now, and the cargo pant silhouette has totally shifted. Back then it was all about skinny cargos with tiny pockets, basically just for show. Now, the pockets are HUGE and actually functional, and the fit is way more relaxed. I think the shift started around 2021 when utility wear got popular again. Designers are using heavier canvas or tech fabrics now, not just thin cotton. Has anyone else tried designing with these new oversized pocket shapes? I'm curious how you're integrating them without making the whole piece look bulky.

My last attempt at sewing cargo pockets looked like I was trying to hide a whole laptop in each leg. The scale is so tricky now. I had to completely redraft the pattern because my first mock-up added like four inches of visual bulk right at the thigh.

Used to think bigger pockets were always better until I saw a pair that just looked like weird saddlebags. Now I get why getting the scale right is such a pain, it totally changes the whole shape of the pants. Your redraft was probably the only way to fix that.
