I finally get why my grandma's sewing projects took so long

She used to spend weeks on one dress, hand-basting everything before sewing. Today, with quick-stitch machines, we rush through patterns in hours. I tried her old method on a skirt and the fit was perfect, but it took all month. It makes you think about what we gain and lose with speed.
