My coastlines went from blobs to believable after a geology lecture
I used to just draw squiggly lines for shores, but after sitting in on a friend's college class about plate tectonics, I started thinking about erosion and uplift. Now I sketch a basic tectonic plate map first, even for a small island, and the coasts just make sense. Anyone else find a random bit of real-world science that fixed a map-making habit?

That geology class was probably about geomorphology, not plate tectonics.

My intro geology course at UW covered both. We spent a full week on geomorphology, @danieltaylor. Then moved right into plate boundaries. They are connected topics.
