Serious question, a 200 amp main breaker in a 30 year old panel just failed on me during a routine service call. One side says always replace the whole panel, the other says just swap the breaker. What's your take?

Just swap the breaker, it's fine.

Man, that's a tough spot to be in. I'd be stressed trying to make that call too.
