I swapped the impeller on my 8-inch cutterhead dredge a day early and the suction jump was way bigger than I expected.

I mean, I was just trying to get ahead of the schedule for the channel project near Mobile, but the pressure gauge jumped from 45 to almost 60 psi and we pulled up a ton of extra material, so maybe it's just me but has anyone else seen a big boost from changing wear parts before they're totally shot?

Seen it happen on our 4-inch setup last season. Swapped the wear ring when it was just starting to show grooves, not fully gone. The pump efficiency tanked way before the part looked totally dead, so that extra pressure makes sense. You probably got back to the pump's actual design curve for a bit.

Honestly @lisa_grant, that reminds me of when my impeller got chewed up by gravel.
