Back in the day I thought those new GPS dredge positioning systems were just a gimmick.
We always ran the old way with buoys and sextants on the Columbia River. Then a buddy showed me his setup hitting a 2-inch tolerance on a channel cut, and I had to admit it was a game changer. Anyone still running the old methods, or has everyone switched over?

My sextant skills are basically a party trick now.

Party trick" is right, you can probably get free drinks by telling people you can navigate by the stars. Just don't try it on the drive home.
