Got called out by an old timer on the shop floor for my drafting table setup

Last Thursday I was working on a set of floor plans for a small office remodel over in Oakville. I had my drafting table all cluttered with scales, erasers, and like three different rolls of trace scattered around. This older drafter, been at the firm for 30 years, walks by and stops. He says my setup was making me waste 10 minutes every hour just shifting stuff around to find the right triangle or ruler. He showed me his station pure clean with a strip of cork on the left edge to hold pencils upright. I tried reorganizing mine to put all the tools within one hand reach and I swear I knocked out the same job an hour faster yesterday. Anyone else have an old timer give you a workflow tip that actually stuck?

Old timer at my last job told me I looked like a raccoon digging through a trash can when I reached for my pencils. Now I keep everything in a coffee mug like he said and I only look half as feral.

My grandpa used to say my desk looked like a squirrel had been nesting in it. He bought me one of those old fashioned pen holders and I still use it to this day.
