Wasted $30 on those 'magic' cleaning erasers that fell apart instantly

I saw those little foam blocks at the dollar store and thought yeah these will save me from scrubbing forever. Tried using one on my kitchen counter last week and it literally crumbled into pieces after like two minutes. The package said it worked like a charm but I ended up with foam bits stuck in every little crack of my tile grout. I spent another 20 minutes picking out the chunks with tweezers before I could even mop the floor. Total loss was just $3 for the erasers but man the time I wasted was way more frustrating. Has anyone else tried those and actually got them to hold together for more than a few swipes?

Wet the eraser first and squeeze out the excess water before scrubbing.

Wetting it first does help but you gotta squeeze out almost all the water or it still falls apart. The real trick is using them for light cleaning only, not actual scrubbing against rough surfaces. They work okay for stuff like crayon marks on walls but anything tougher than that and you're just making more work picking foam crumbs out of everything.
