Remember when dollar store craft paint was actually decent?

I swear back in 2019 you could grab those little Apple Barrel bottles and they'd cover in one coat. Now I just bought six of them for a sign project and it took four layers to stop seeing the wood grain underneath. Anyone else notice the quality slip or am I just unlucky with my local store?

Wait, hold on. Four layers? I'd have tossed the sign by then. @nora535 hit it, the store brand stuff is way more consistent. I grabbed some Daiso brand bottles last week and they covered in two coats easy. Apple Barrel went from reliable workhorse to total gamble.

Yeah the "one coat" promise is a straight up lie now. I've switched to the store brand acrylics and they're somehow better.
