Spent 3 months building a closed terrarium and forgot to add drainage

I layered everything perfectly - moss, soil, plants - then realized 2 weeks later I'd skipped the gravel entirely. The water pooled at the bottom for a month before it somehow balanced out, my 3 ferns somehow surviving. Anyone else have a build that worked despite your own mistakes?

Heard from a buddy who runs a nursery that ferns are like the cockroaches of the plant world - they'll survive almost anything. I'm guessing the soil eventually worked itself into a natural filter. Lucky break though, most people would've had a swamp in there.

Thought ferns were delicate but yeah they're basically unkillable.
