Why does nobody talk about how long it takes to level a floor for tile?

I figured a weekend project in my kitchen. Two days later, I'm still grinding down high spots with a rented concrete grinder. Has anyone else had a simple prep job balloon into a multi-day ordeal?

That's the whole job, not just prep.

Exactly. The prep is where you stop it from falling apart later. I've seen people skip the primer on a drywall patch, then the paint soaks in and looks totally different. Or they don't sand down the old gloss on a door before repainting, and the new coat just peels off in sheets a month later. That extra hour up front saves you a whole weekend redo.
