Hot take: I stopped caulking baseboards to the floor after my third call back
Used to run a bead along the bottom of every trim job like everyone else, but after two moisture traps rotted out in a basement reno in 2019, I switched to leaving a 1/8 gap and letting the flooring sit tight with no seal, has anyone else ditched caulk for a cleaner vented look?

Is that 1/8 gap enough to keep dust bunnies from building up under there? I switched to no caulk too after a few jobs where the floor expansion just pushed the caulk right off the base, it looked like garbage after one season. Now I just run a brush along the bottom to knock off drywall dust before the flooring goes down, and that vented look actually seems cleaner in the long run. I mean, you still get a little light gap but it beats having to scrape and re-caulk every time the humidity changes.
