The big-box store parking lot demo changed my insulation plan

Watched a guy in the Home Depot lot in Phoenix tear open a bat of fiberglass with just a utility knife and his hands, no special tools. He had the whole thing cut and fitted in under 2 minutes, which made me ditch my fancy foam board approach for the basement. Anyone else found that the expensive stuff is overkill when basic methods work fine?

Caught a YouTube video last week where a guy insulated his whole shed with scrap fiberglass from a job site and it came out cleaner than my buddy's $400 spray foam setup. The trick was just measuring twice and using a straight edge to score the paper facing, then snapping it like drywall. Honestly, people sleep on how forgiving fiberglass is since you can squish it into weird gaps, while foam board makes you swear when the cuts don't line up. Basement's probably fine either way, but I'd rather save the cash for beer and buy the cheap stuff.
