Spent $120 on a 'one-coat' paint that needed three coats anyway

The can said it would cover in a single pass, but my old plaster walls drank it right up. I ended up buying two more gallons to finish the room, which basically doubled the cost. Anyone have a go-to paint for thirsty old walls?

My old house has the same plaster walls and I've had good luck with that Aura paint too. The key is to use their special primer first, it's called Fresh Start. It seals the wall so the paint doesn't just soak in. I did my living room with one coat of paint over that primer and it looked perfect. It costs more up front but you save money by not needing extra gallons.

That Benjamin Moore Aura line really did cover my 1920s walls in one coat.
