Rant: My garage shelves collapsed last night

Stacked too many paint cans on a cheap wire shelf. Heard the crack around 11pm. Ran out and found five gallons of latex all over the concrete. Spent two hours scrubbing with a wire brush and mineral spirits. Anyone got a solid shelf brand that can handle real weight?

You said "cheap wire shelf" were the brackets plastic or metal?

Are you sure metal is even better though? I had a set with metal brackets once and they rusted out in like a year because the coating chipped off. Plastic might not look as tough but at least it won't corrode or leave orange stains all over your stuff. Plus the plastic ones are lighter making them easier to install and adjust without stripping screws. I get why people want metal for heavy loads but for basic pantry or garage storage plastic brackets hold up fine if you don't overload them.
