Pro tip: I hit 37 board feet of scrap wood saved from the landfill this month

I started keeping a tally on a chalkboard in my garage after a neighbor's remodel filled a dumpster with good oak. This week, I pulled enough 1x4 pine from a pallet to build a set of garage shelves, and that put me over my goal. It made me realize how much usable material we throw away without a second thought. What's the best thing you've ever built from leftover scraps?

Read an article about a guy who built a whole kayak frame from old shipping pallets. My best scrap project was a little side table for my porch, made from cut offs of cedar decking and a broken broom handle for one leg. It's kinda wobbly but it holds my coffee.

Saw a video where someone made a whole greenhouse from old windows they found on the curb. Some of these scrap builds are wild.

That "whole kayak from pallets" idea seemed crazy until I built a workbench from scrap 2x4s.
