My bathroom tile job taught me that cheap mastic is a total waste of time compared to a $30 bag of thinset mortar.
I mean, I used the pre-mixed stuff on my first wall because it was easier, but after 6 months the tiles started to sag, so I had to redo the whole thing with proper mortar and it's been solid for over a year now.

Ugh that "bad batch" comment from diana_flores25 is so off base. I had the EXACT same thing happen with mastic in my kitchen. It felt fine for a few months, then one day I noticed a whole row of subway tiles had just slid down a quarter inch. The stuff is basically glue and it just gives up when it gets damp. Spending the extra on the powder mortar you mix yourself is a total game changer. It's a pain to mix but it actually holds forever.
