My old PS2 went from a noisy mess to dead quiet after I cleaned the fan

I pulled it out of storage last month and it sounded like a jet engine when I turned it on. I opened it up and found the fan was packed with dust (like, a solid layer of it). I used a can of compressed air and a small brush to clean it all out, which took maybe twenty minutes total. Now it runs so quiet I can barely tell it's on. Has anyone else had a console get that loud just from dust buildup?

Yeah, that compressed air trick works wonders. I did the same for my old Xbox 360 and it went from a helicopter to a whisper. Makes you wonder how much longer these old consoles will last if we just keep them clean, right?

Seriously, a clean console is a happy console. I open mine up once a year, get in there with a soft brush and air, and it's like a time machine. The thermal paste on old chips can dry out too, which is the next thing to check after dust. How many years have you gotten out of that 360 now?

Totally agree, it's crazy what a difference it makes. My old PS4 sounded like it was trying to take off before I blasted the dust out. Honestly, a lot of these "hardware failures" are probably just years of gunk building up. Makes me want to go clean everything now.
