Watching a guy in Lisbon get his laptop stolen from a cafe table made me switch to a cheap decoy laptop for public work.

I saw it happen at a spot near the Time Out Market last Tuesday, and now I carry a $200 Chromebook in my bag while my real machine stays locked in my apartment safe, so what's your best trick for keeping your gear secure in a busy city?

Honestly, I started using a plain black laptop sleeve with no brand logos. It makes my MacBook look like any old cheap computer from a distance. That little bit of disguise has worked better than I expected in coffee shops. What kind of bag do you use to carry your decoy?

But why hide it at all, @felix_coleman87? A plain sleeve just makes me more worried about dropping it without real protection. I'd rather have a good bag that keeps it safe and looks normal.
