My old way of picking a place to stay was a total mess
I used to just book the cheapest Airbnb I could find for a month, which meant I ended up in noisy city centers or places with terrible internet. Last year in Lisbon, I spent two full weeks in a spot where the Wi-Fi cut out every afternoon, making work calls impossible. Now I always check for coworking spaces nearby and message the host to ask for a speed test screenshot before I book. It adds maybe 30 minutes of research, but it saves so much stress. What's your must-have check before you book a long-term rental?

Speed test screenshots can be faked though. I'd ask for a video call and have them run the test live.

You ever see someone get caught doing that? My buddy was selling his old gaming PC and the buyer asked for a speed test. He sent a screenshot but the guy insisted on a video call. Turns out my friend had been using a program to fake his internet numbers for months just to look good online. The call was super awkward when the real test loaded.

Honestly I always thought video calls were overkill but @the_jenny's story about the live test being awkward changed my mind. Tbh you gotta see it run for real.
