Vent: that 'work in progress' tag cost me a commission

A bigger artist told me to post unfinished pieces to build hype, so I put up a sketch last Tuesday and a client backed out calling it 'unprofessional'. Maybe it's just my niche, but has anyone else seen tagged WIPs actually hurt their chances?

Maybe the artist who gave that advice never deals with clients directly, and the tag makes you look like you can't finish. Posting sketches feels more like a patreon perk than a promo move.
