Realized my whole showcase layout was hurting my art, all because of a monitor I borrowed from work
I do digital paintings of old barns and farm fields, and for two years I shared them on a cheap laptop screen I got back in 2019. A friend in Denver let me borrow her calibrated monitor for a weekend, and I pulled up a piece I was proud of, a barn at sunset with about 40 layers of shading. On her screen the shadows I thought were soft and deep were crushed into flat black blobs, and my warm oranges looked like neon traffic cones. I had been tweaking colors to fight my own screen the whole time, making everything darker and more saturated just so it looked right to me. That means every showcase post I made was showing people a version I never actually saw. I sat there for an hour flipping the same file between both screens and felt kind of sick about it. Now I check my files on three screens before I post anything, my laptop, my phone, and my partner's iPad. Has anyone else here found out their display was lying to them, and how did you handle redoing stuff you already put out there?
