Overediting my showcase pieces for 2 years, then a gallery owner pointed out the obvious

I spent forever in 2023 and 2024 stacking filters, adjusting every little highlight, redoing shadows 5 times per piece. Thought more editing meant more polished. Then last month at a small show in Portland, a gallery owner looked at my print and said "you know the original sketch had more life, right?" I hadn't even kept the sketch. She was talking about the raw version I posted on my story one night. Went back, compared old drafts to final ones, and yeah, all my favorites were the ones I barely touched. Now I force myself to save a flat version before any layer work. Has anyone else deleted their less edited pieces and regretted it later?

Yeah, the untouched ones are always the best. Less is more, honestly.
