My tablet driver crashed during a 12-hour commission and I lost everything

This happened yesterday around 3 AM. I was finishing a huge background piece for a client, all detailed city lights and reflections. My screen just froze, then went black. When I rebooted, the driver was gone and the software wouldn't recognize my pen. The autosave file was from like 5 hours prior, basically a rough sketch. I spent the next two hours just staring at my screen trying not to scream. I had to message the client and ask for a 48-hour extension, which makes me look so unprofessional. Has anyone else had their entire setup just die mid-project? What's your emergency backup plan when the tech betrays you?

Ugh, that's the absolute worst feeling. My old laptop's power supply literally sparked and smoked once while I was in the middle of animating a short loop. The smell was like burnt plastic and pure fear. I had to run to the store, buy a whole new charger, and pray the thing would even turn back on. Lost a whole day's work just sweating and waiting. It's why I get paranoid and save like five different copies now, even though it's a mess to sort through later.

Honestly, setting up automatic cloud saves saved my sanity after a similar crash.
