Can we talk about diesel emissions rules killing small shops?

Regs are good, but the cost is burying us.

Used to think stricter rules were just part of doing business. Honestly, I believed every shop could handle the costs if they tried. Then I watched a local place fight a five grand bill for a mandated sensor fix. Talking to the owner, he showed me how these yearly updates crush his thin margin. Ngl, that made me see it's not about cutting corners. The system really is stacked against the little guy, and good shops fold because of it.

Kill is the right word. Watch a good shop close because they can’t drop 10k on a new scanner just to read codes. The DEF system alone on a new rig costs more than some jobs pay. Yeah, clean air matters, but the math doesn’t work for a three bay operation. They write rules for fleets, not for us.

Ugh, that's so frustrating. Small shops always get hit the hardest.
