My couponing aunt said never clear a shelf, and she was dead wrong about the pasta sauce
My aunt Bev has been couponing since the 90s and she always told me the number one rule is you never clear a shelf because it tips off the store and they stop restocking. I followed that for years. Then two months ago at a Kroger in Garland the pasta sauce was on a buy 6 get 4 free stack with a digital coupon dropping it to 41 cents a jar, and I only took 12 because of her rule. Came back 3 days later and the shelf was wiped anyway. A guy in the aisle told me a reseller hit it the same morning and bought every jar on the pallet in the back. So I left money sitting there for nothing. Now I take what I can use plus a little extra and I have not seen a store punish me once. Aunt Bev still says I am wrong but she also paid $2.19 for the same sauce. Does anyone actually get restocking problems from clearing a shelf or is that just an old coupon myth?
Oh man this reminds me of when my sister and I found those 25 cent toothpaste tubes at Walmart and she kept saying leave some for other people. Meanwhile some dude with a cart rolled up and took the whole box while we stood there like idiots. Never saw that rule do anything but cost us money either.
