Why does nobody talk about checking the browser padlock on public wifi before typing a password?
Watched a guy at a Denver coffee shop log into his bank on a network called "FreeWiFi" that had no padlock last Tuesday, and I wanted to ask if anyone else double checks the lock icon before they type anything sensitive.
The "no padlock" part is what gets me because that's the same energy as people who don't look both ways before crossing a one way street. It's not that they're dumb, it's that the habit never got built in the first place. You see it everywhere now, folks tapping yes on every popup, clicking links in texts from numbers they don't know, putting their card into gas pumps that look sketchy. We all out here trusting the default setting of the world and the default setting is usually not on our side. Reading that little lock is like looking both ways, takes one second and saves you a whole lot of pain.
